한국 효도 요양원 소개

미주 한인 이민 역사가 깊어 지면서 한인 커뮤니티 또한 시니어 케어에 있어 다양한 문제를 맞닦뜨리고 있습니다. 언어, 관습, 음식 등 오랜 미국 생활로도 채워지지 않는 그리운 삶의 방식을 제공하는 요양원이나 그 외 장기 케어 시스템에 대한 필요성이 높아지고 있습니다.

2000년대, 당시 하워드 카운티 한인회장이던 송수 박사는 이런 한인 시니어 케어의 필요성을 지방 정부 인사들에게 전달하고 해결 방안을 모색했습니다.

그 결과, 메릴랜드에서 시니어 롱텀 케어로 유명한 로리엔 헬스 시스템 내 한인 유닛이 개설 됐습니다. 한인 어르신들은 이 곳에서 한국말이 가능한 스태프의 도움을 받으실 수 있고, 한식을 즐기시며 요양원 내의 작은 한인 요양원에서 편하게 생활하고 계십니다.

워싱턴 메트로 지역에 워낙 한인 인구가 많은 덕분에 콜롬비아의 효도 요양원에 대한 소문이 퍼지면서, 볼티모어 카운티의 티모니움에 있는 메이스 채플 시설에도 한인 요양원 유닛이 개설 됐습니다. 

As Korean Immigrant society’s history in the US is getting longer and deeper, various needs to accommodate the Korean-American communities are on the rise. Especially regarding seniors, securing comfortable living arrangements is harder due to barriers like language, culture, custom, and cuisine. Since the early 2000s, Dr. Song – who was the president of the Korean American Association of Howard County, Maryland, has been advocating for Korean seniors to local elected officials. She expressed the community’s need for a tailored facility to maintain Korean Seniors’ dignity and well-being on the issue of long-term care. 

Dr. Song was able to establish a Care center as a part of the Lorien Health System, providing not only comfortable but also fulfilling necessities uniquely customized for the Korean seniors. Lorien Health System is one of the highly sought-after long-term care providers in the region and their expertise in Senior living allowed this special blend of care with cultural sensitivity.

With Korean Americans being one of the major ethnic groups in the Washington Metro area, the success story of Howard County was noticed and praised, inevitably.

Happy seniors being cared for in their accustomed way of living and relaxed family knowing that their loved ones are in good care now has spread onto neighboring Baltimore County. Lorien Health’s Mays Chapel in Timonium is becoming another popular long-term care site for Korean seniors.
